If you’ve been a born-again believer for some years now, like myself, you have definitely come to a point in your life where the Lord Jesus has called you to a place of solitude, a place where you may get to know him better, deeper, more intimate place in him. This may be spending more time in his word, less time with the outside world, forgoing relationships (not neglecting our role responsibilities, of course) but choosing to spend our free time with him than having that hour long conversation or binge-watching Netflix.
The Lord has called me again to this deeper walk in him over this weekend. The Holy Spirit has been a gentleman like only he can do because I was sensing this earlier than this past weekend but I took a few days to really focus in on the inner yearning to draw closer to my Heavenly Father through Christ Jesus.
Psalm 42:7 ~ Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
The Yearning is undeniable; the feelings of this call leaves you feeling most unsatisfied with your life at the time. Perhaps no major life events shifted but little by little, even though you have been spending time with the Lord routinely, this yearning grows more. It’s like going through a heartbreak. (As I write this, the Holy Spirit just gave me a quick vision of the Lord Jesus walking as if he’s walking away from you but not away, more like he’s walking onward and we are to follow him The heart may feels broken. Like you lost a loved one or missing someone very dear to your heart. We feel this because the lover of our soul is wanting to walk onward and if we are not sensitive to the Holy Spirit we may misunderstand what is going on. At this point, we should approach out Heavenly Father in prayer asking why we feel this way and he may impress on your heart to “Come deeper into my Son.” {Psalm 27:8 ~ My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.})
We should be careful not to fall into deep sadness which the enemy may take advantage of and bring in depression. Every thought that exalts itself against Jesus must to be taken captive. We must ask the Lord God for forgiveness and renounce all ungodly agreement in our thoughts made with the enemy. Sometimes it’s words from our our mouth that condemns us “Oh it’s just seasonal depression again” Bring all emotions you may not be sure of to the Lord God for clarity and receive wisdom and instructions on how to proceed.
Pertaining to this deeper call; this yearning is truly a call into deeper spiritual maturity.
Romans 8:16-18 | 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ — if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him. 18 I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us.…
The Lord Jesus wants his body to mature in their calling as ‘The Church’ his body. Just like an earthly Father, the Lord God wants to seat his mature sons and daughters on thrones to reign with His Son, Jesus Christ.
2 Timothy 2:12 ~ If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us…
This yearning is a call to a deeper death of our self. It’s a call to make Jesus the Lord of areas of our lives that we have yet to release to his Lordship. Not just the idea of Lordship but total surrender.
Galatians 2:20 ~ I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me
Luke 9:23 ~ If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Romans 12:1 ~ offer your bodies as a living sacrifice
